About 1 in 4 young Australians experience a common mental illness each year.
It can be difficult to see those around you struggling with their mental health and to know how you can help.
Youth Mental Health First Aid training will teach you practical skills to respond to and support a young person experiencing a mental health problem until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis is resolved.
The Youth Mental Health First Aid training course is for adults parenting, living with or working with young people aged between 12 and 18 years of age - basically anyone who has a young person in their life!
You do not need any prior learning, any adult aged 18+ years can attend.
Our training will not teach you to be a professional therapist, but using a practical, skills-based action plan, participants learn the skills to recognise and respond to someone experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, until professional help is received, or the crisis resolves.
The course will learn how to apply mental health first aid to young people across a range of situations, including depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use problems, suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks and non-suicidal self-injury.
This is a 14 hour course delivered over 2 days in person.
The training is delivered by a Youth Mental Health First Aid trained and Licensed Instructor.
There is no formal assessment following the training but participants can choose to complete a short assessment to be an accredited Youth Mental Health First Aider.
Accreditations are valid for 3 years.
Little Wren Social Work and Counselling provides training available to the public.
Training can be arranged for group bookings at your workplace, venue or other setting.
